Live Your Happy: Get Out of Your Own Way and Find the Love Within by Maria Felipe . ISBN: 9781608684533.
This book review by frequencyRiser was published on July 7, 2017.
When our review copy of Live Your Happy arrived, the ego immediately chimed in and said "Look at this little book, I doubt we're going to learn much from this one." Little did we know that author Maria Felipe would address these exact ego driven thoughts in her great book Live Your Happy: Get Out of Your Own Way and Find the Love Within.
Felipe refers to the ego as our "cuckoo" voice. The cuckoo voice of the ego is based in fear and the fear in this instance was that time might be wasted in reading this book and there would be nothing of value to gain.
Whereas the voice of Love might chime in with something like, "Look at this beautiful book and opportunity to learn and grow." This book is filled with so much wisdom that you will want to mark pages to refer back to and read again and again. The end of each chapter also contains a practice and summary to be able to dive in deep for in depth learning and utilization as a practical hands-on guide to living.
If, while reading this book, your ego tells you that you are turned off by words like God, Holy Spirit and prayer, simply substitute those words with any words you prefer like Source, Creator, conscience, inner wisdom, innate knowledge, meditation, contemplation, etc... By doing so, every person will find value in this wise book.
A former actress, model and TV host, Maria Felipe's life changed when she began to study a book called A Course in Miracles (ACIM). ACIM defines a miracle as a "shift in perception" allowing us to see that the problem is not "out there" but in our mind. This shift in perception changed Maria's life so much that she obtained her ministerial certificate and is now Reverend Maria Felipe author of Live Your Happy.
Maria delves into the notion that Love and fear cannot coexist and states, "We can choose to see the world through the eyes of love or through the eyes of fear. This is the fundamental choice of every day life."
When we examine our thoughts and feelings are they coming from a place of fear or Love?
John Lennon once said, "There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life."
Live your Happy touches on every aspect of this quote from John Lennon. If our true nature is Love, then fear is the voice of the ego tricking us with mind games. This does not mean that fear does not have a place in our life as a protection mechanism. If we are in danger fear lets us know that we need to take action to stay safe. The problem is that the ego tricks us into believing that we need to dwell on fear and keep our minds preoccupied with fear even after it is not needed.
Another important concept the author addresses is "True Forgiveness".
Maria defines true forgiveness as: a change in perception from fear to Love, being willing to see things another way, and letting go of the past. True forgiveness is something the author says will take time as we have been conditioned over many years (sometimes our whole life) to view the world in a certain way and it will take time to reinforce a new view of the world.
Maria sums up the practice of true forgiveness as realizing that:
These are just a few of the many valuable insights Maria provides in her life changing book Live Your Happy. By ridding ourselves of fear and the cuckoo voice of the ego, embracing forgiveness, gratitude, mindfulness, and shifting our perception we can live our happy.
This book is a great in-depth roadmap to guide you on your journey to happy! Get your copy of Live Your Happy.

Cultivating mindfulness is the key to overcoming suffering and recognizing natural wisdom: both our own and others'. How do we go about it?
In the Buddhist tradition and in Contemplative Psychotherapy training, we nurture mindfulness through the practice of sitting meditation. There are many different kinds of meditation. For example, some are designed to help us relax; others are meant to produce altered states of consciousness.
Mindfulness meditation is unique in that it is not directed toward getting us to be different from how we already are. Instead, it helps us become aware of what is already true moment by moment. We could say that it teaches us how to be unconditionally present; that is, it helps us be present with whatever is happening, no matter what it is.
Mindfulness, paying precise, nonjudgmental attention to the details of our experience as it arises and subsides, doesn't reject anything. Instead of struggling to get away from experiences we find difficult, we practice being able to be with them. Equally, we bring mindfulness to pleasant experiences as well. Perhaps surprisingly, many times we have a hard time staying simply present with happiness. We turn it into something more familiar, like worrying that it won't last or trying to keep it from fading away.
When we are mindful, we show up for our lives; we don't miss them in being distracted or in wishing for things to be different. Instead, if something needs to be changed we are present enough to understand what needs to be done. Being mindful is not a substitute for actually participating in our lives and taking care of our own and others' needs. In fact, the more mindful we are, the more skillful we can be in compassionate action.

One of our all time favorite teachers is the late Joseph Campbell. Joseph Campbell was a preeminent scholar, writer, and teacher who had a genius for finding the unifying symbols and metaphors in apparently distinct cultures and traditions. Campbell explores the enduring power of the universal myths that influence our lives daily and examines the myth-making process from the primitive past to the immediate present, returning always to the source from which all mythology springs: the creative imagination. He had a profound influence on millions of people--including Star Wars creator George Lucas. To Campbell, mythology was the “song of the universe, the music of the spheres.”
In the video below, Campbell discusses winged fish, the feathered serpent, the Bodhisattva, and the Christ -- all mythological images of a shift in consciousness. This video is a brief excerpt from interviews filmed with Joseph Campbell shortly before his death in 1987, previously unreleased by the Joseph Campbell Foundation.
